# 2015

## Year thesis

2015 is the year flat design stops being a rebellion against skeuomorphism and becomes the working climate of digital life.

Google's Material Design, announced in 2014, is now visible as product behavior: cards, depth, motion, floating action buttons, bright color, Roboto, and interface components that promise rational friendliness. Apple answers from another angle with the first Apple Watch, where design has to work as a glance, a tap, a haptic nudge, a ring, and a wrist-worn status object.

Brand identity also shrinks to the screen. Google's September 2015 logo redraw replaces serif authority with a geometric sans and a four-color G that can survive app icons, voice search dots, and mobile loading states. Letters need to scale from watch face to billboard and survive animation, localization, and low-attention scrolling.

2015 surfaces are clean but not cold.
